The Department of Health Policy and Management of Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health seeks applicants for a full-time grant funded position. This is a one – year position with potential renewal for a second year. The start date is expected to be June 1, 2021 with an end date of 05/31/2022. Earlier or later start dates may be available.
The faculty is looking to hire for assistance on his research on overprescribing of opioids and other medications and its effects on the health care system.
The position will involve working closely with the faculty and his collaborators in the fields of economics, medicine, and health services research. Research topics will include the causes of dangerous opioid prescribing and efforts to make prescribing safer in nursing homes. This role will include processing and analysis of Medicare health care claims data and other datasets. The role will also involve presenting findings to the research team and reviewing relevant academic literature.
This position is a unique opportunity for those looking to gain experience in health economics, health care data, and quantitative research methods. It will serve as excellent preparation for PhD programs in economics, health services research, and/or public health.
The position will be based at the Columbia University in New York, NY. Remote work options may be available as well.
Staff Associate: 4 years relevant experience
- Strong quantitative background, including knowledge of statistics and/or econometrics.
- Experience analyzing large datasets with statistical software. This work will primarily use Stata, but those with advanced knowledge of another language (R, Python, SQL, Matlab, and others) are also encouraged to apply.
- Interest and experience in working independently to solve problems.
