Position Summary

The Columbia Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI) is seeking a Technician B to support research in the field of transplantation immunology under the supervision of the PI. The main topic of this research is the understanding of the immunobiology associated with various transplant outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist laboratory members in the conduct of experiments as directed by the PI.
  • Perform a variety of techniques including flow cytometry, cell culture, PCR and immunohistochemistry, under the supervision of the PI or other lab staff.
  • Assist in a swine genotyping/phenotyping project.
  • Prepare and assist with experiments to study T cell immunology in mouse models and human tissue.
  • Assist in the development of new assays, methods, and reagents.
  • Maintain detailed, up-to-date, and accurate record of samples, reagents, and perform instrument tuning and QC.
  • Perform routine data processing and assist with data analysis.
  • Responsible for back-up ordering of supplies and inventory maintenance of the lab.
  • Place orders and prepare service bills.
  • Contribute to building a culture that embraces scientific excellence, integrity, efficiency, teamwork, and continuous learning and improvement.
  • Perform other related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience
  • Familiarity with research science
  • Must be detail oriented and possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, work independently as well as part of a team, and work well under pressure
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and data management files required

Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program
  • Position will involve work with laboratory animals
  • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
